A mobile product that encourages people to shop locally by providing easy access to high quality produce.
According to consumer research there is a large gap between desire to sustainably shop and actual numbers of consumers completing sustainable purchases. We wanted to explore a digital solution to this problem
01 The Problem
Everyday consumers have an increasing appetite for sustainable, local shopping, yet affordable access to local, eco-friendly goods remains out of reach. This is due to high perceived costs or inconvenient locations.
In addition producers are faced with the quandary of having to sell to large supermarkets with a small margin or risk depleted revenue by selling via farmer’s markets or direct.
02 The Solution
An app that connects producers with consumers via community neighbourhood hubs. With or without a physical hub, the app provides an online marketplace for local producers of food such as bread bakers, vegetable growers and artesanal producers to upload their goods for pre-order. Consumers can browse and select goods from multiple local providers and pick them up from one convenient location on the weekly or bi-weekly basis.
03 My role
I was brought on board as Principal Designer on the project. The founders had an idea but needed the concept validating via bootstrapped research and discovery. The intention was to take the project through the end to end design process, (from concept through to prototype) as quickly as possible and have a proposition ready for fundraising.
